Visceral Manipulation
“Visceral Manipulation is for anyone who simply wants to feel better in themselves.”
What is Visceral Manipulation?
The science of Visceral Manipulation is a discipline pioneered by osteopath Jean-Pierre Barral. Originating from his observations at a lung disease hospital in Grenoble, Barral noted how restrictions in the visceral (organ) region could induce changes and pain in muscles and joints.

Extensive research led him to a groundbreaking revelation: approximately 90% of musculoskeletal issues harbour a visceral component. Consequently, physical therapies devoid of addressing these underlying visceral concerns may yield transient relief, despite an initial reduction in pain.
Unlocking the path to successful resolution involves pinpointing specific areas of restriction unique to each individual. By facilitating the release of these restrictions in a tailored manner, the body can realign itself towards a trajectory of improved health. Visceral Manipulation thus emerges as a key element in the journey to address the root causes of discomfort and cultivate enduring well-being.

“A car accident in 2019 left me with multiple compression fractures to my thoracic and lumbar spine. Pip’s treatments not only had huge effect (pain relief) following complicated surgery, but still today quickly puts to rest the inevitable twinges as and when they arise. There are days where she quite literally puts me back on my feet”

Musculo-Skeletal Treatment
What causes musculoskeletal issues?

Musculoskeletal symptoms are pervasive and stem from a myriad of factors. Injuries affecting joints, bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, or bursas often result from repetitive movements, poor posture, compensatory habits, trauma, or surgery.
The good news is that, in most cases, musculoskeletal pains can be effectively addressed through a personalised and targeted treatment plan. By identifying the underlying causes, we can reach comprehensive solutions for optimal relief and recovery.
What does treatment involve?

After assessing your movement and areas of discomfort, Pip uses her extensive knowledge of Osteopathic and Sports Massage techniques, sometimes combined with Visceral Manipulation therapy or Reflexology. A combination of these techniques encourages better movement throughout the body, reduces pain, and helps restore the body to its optimum.
You will also receive advice on posture and exercises to help you recover as soon as possible.
If you have an acute injury that needs support, Pip can apply Kinesio-tape and lend you one of her many musculoskeletal supports or ice packs.

“Pip is our ‘go-to-person’ when any of my family are in pain. All five of us have been treated for back and shoulder strains and spasms, migraines, and intestinal problems. Her visceral work is amazing, she can literally sense where the issues are. Her manner is kind and empathetic and she genuinely cares for her patients.”
